Brighton Rocks Film Festival

Submissions to Brighton Rocks can be made through
Filmfreeway and Withoutabox​.
The deadlines are as follows:

                    1 October                Super early bird deadline
        15 November          Early bird deadline 
                                31 December          La Dolche Vita deadline                   

                       14 February            In the Mood for Love deadline
                      31 March                 Last Tango in Paris deadline 
   
14 May                     Final deadline  ​   
                                                      
 

Official Sections will be notified within a month of submission. Finalists will be announced on 15 May and Winners on 31 May 2018.
The Best Film will be revealed on Saturday 15 June 2019 ​at the Festival.

  • Category Winners:  BEST ANIMATION, BEST ART HOUSE FILM, BEST BRIGHTON FILMMAKER, BEST COMEDY, BEST SHORT DOCUMENTARY, BEST DRAMA, BEST FANTASY/HORROR/SCI-FI, BEST NO/LOW-BUDGET SHORT, BEST LGBTQ+ FILM, BEST MICRO MOVIE, BEST MUSIC VIDEO, BEST PHONE MOVIE, BEST NOIR/THRILLER, BEST STUDENT FILM.
  • Category Winners (shorts) receive a FESTIVAL SCREENING.
  • Finalists are eligible for the following awards:  BEST ACTOR, ACTRESS, CINEMATOGRAPHY, DIRECTOR, EDITING, ORIGINAL SCORE, SCREENPLAY, SPECIAL EFFECTS & BRIGHTON ROCKS SPIRIT AWARD.
  • There will be one BEST FILM.
  • There will be one BEST FEATURE FILM (FICTION).
  • There will be one BEST FEATURE FILM (DOCUMENTARY).

Runtime must be less than 30 minutes (except Micro Movies).

Feature Film (Fiction)
Runtime must be more than 30 minutes (generally 60-120 minutes). All genres are admissible.

Feature Film (Documentary)
Runtime must be more than 30 minutes (generally 60-120 minutes).

NB. Brighton Filmmaker must have a demonstrably strong link to Brighton. 
NB. No/Low-Budget means films produced for less than £2000. 
NB. Micro Movies must have a runtime of less than 4 minutes, including credits.
NB. Phone Movies must consist of 75% phone footage.

NB. Student Films' director, producer and at least one other crew member must be in full-time education.

RULES

Please read the following rules before submitting your work.
BRIGHTON ROCKS accepts narrative, documentary, animation and experimental films.
  • Entry fees are non-refundable.
  • All films must be in English or have English subtitles.
  • Production must have been completed after 1 January 2016.
  • There is no limit on the number of submissions.
  • All films must have an online screener.
  • Filmmakers retain the rights to their films.
  • Filmmakers are responsible for acquiring copyrights, licenses and releases for media used in their films.
  • By submitting their film, filmmakers gives Brighton Rocks the right to post their posters, trailers, website and social media links on our website.
  • Brighton Rocks reserves the right to move films into categories different from the one(s) submitted to.
